Society Registration in Telangana: A Complete Guide for 2025

Societies play a major role in driving social, cultural, educational, charitable, and community-based initiatives in India. In Telangana, thousands of NGOs, clubs, and community groups choose to register as societies because the process is relatively straightforward and legally recognized under The Telangana Societies Registration Act, 2001.

If you are planning to start a non-profit organization in Telangana, understanding the registration process is essential. This blog explains everything you need to know—from eligibility and documents to fees and online procedures.

What Is a Society?

A society is a group of people who come together for a common purpose—such as education, charity, arts, sports, research, culture, or welfare activities. Registration gives the society legal status, making it easier to:

  • Open a bank account

  • Acquire assets

  • Receive grants and donations

  • Enter into legal contracts

  • Ensure transparency and credibility

2. Draft the MOA and By-Laws

These documents define how the society will function.

3. Prepare Member Signatures

All governing body members must sign the documents.

4. Submit the Application

Registration is done through the Telangana Registration & Stamps Department.

Online Registration:

Visit the IGRS Telangana portal and upload all documents.
After verification, you must visit the Registrar’s Office for physical submission of originals if required.

Offline Registration:

Submit documents at the District Registrar’s Office in your region.

5. Pay the Registration Fee

Fees are nominal and vary based on the district. Payment can be made online or at the office.

6. Verification by the Registrar

The Registrar reviews:

  • The society’s objectives

  • Member details

  • Address proof

  • MOA and By-Laws

7. Issuance of Registration Certificate

Once approved, you receive a Certificate of Registration, which legally establishes the society.
